The Lesser Gods
In the celestial language, the suffix “-iel” means “of the gods”. Resultingly, each of the lesser gods has a name in the Common tongue with this suffix, denoting them as having sprung forth from the greater gods before them. Like their forebears, the second generation of the divine took it upon themselves to populate the world of Helschyon. Of special mention are Karstiel and Sylthoniel.
Karstiel played a significant role in the Absolution of Helschyon. The oldest of the lesser gods, he was sent as an unstoppable force to destruct and depose those that sought to resist the wiping of the slate mandated by his creators. As a result, he has been endowed with a greater role in the repopulation of Helshyon than his divine essence would suggest he should be. His favored peoples, collectively known as the Savage Races, simultaneously lack the organization or focus to thrive as a civilization while also being cursed with an implacable desire for more than they have. As such, they tend to move as hordes of slovenly, violent plunderers incapable of succeeding on their own without stealing what others have already built.
Sylthoniel is exceptional because she is unquestionably the most powerful of the lesser gods. While each of the other lesser gods was imbued only with the strength of their progenitors, Sylthoniel was bestowed additional power by her parents’ peers as well. The increase of divine energy at her command is seen on the Helschyon in the sheer number and variety of beings she calls her favored: humans, halflings, and the myriad beastfolk races all call Sylthoniel their creator. However, the special circumstances of her birth also elicit a new pang of fear, for if the races under her care grow as powerful as those of old, another Absolution may prove unavoidable.
